About Us

The Wirral Fencing Club meets at the Oval, Bebington on Thursday nights
8.00pm – 10.00pm and has been welcoming experienced and beginner fencers since opening in 1990; it provides instruction and coaching for club fencer to international. We encourage our members to be competitive.

Membership Fees

Annual membership runs from May 1st to April 30th.

Essentially, the annual membership is for replacing equipment while club night fees cover our running expenses. All officers and coaches are honorary, no payments are given other than genuine out-of-pocket expenses.

Junior fees:- Annual membership, age 13-17, £20-00. PLUS club night fee, under 15 £2-00, 15-17 £2-50.

Adult fees:- Annual membership, £30-00, PLUS club night fee, £3-00.

Fencers

It is accepted that fencing will not appeal to everyone who tries it so we do not expect immediate membership. Newcomers are welcome to try three evenings as a taster paying just the night fee before making up their mind whether they wish to become members.

In consideration of the training and competitive requirement made on
Junior members, the coaches will advise parents against taking up membership for their children if appropriate potential and/or commitment is not demonstrated. There is a 50% reduction in the annual membership fee if joining after December 1st of any year.

Equipment

The club provides all equipment necessary to begin fencing; T shirt, trainers and LONG trousers should be worn. British Fencing recommends wearing fencing breeches when using size 5 electric foils; junior fencers without breeches will be restricted to size 3 foils and adults without breeches are advised that should they use size 5 electric foils they do so at their own risk. Equipment (other than breeches) may also be borrowed for outside competitions (provided loss or wilful damage is made good). Those who stay with the sport will usually soon want their own equipment, particularly clothing and we can help you obtain what you need.

British Fencing Association

The British Fencing Association is the Governing Body for fencing in the UK. Membership is compulsory for most adult and youth competitions; not only do membership fees support the sport in general but more importantly third party liability insurance is included. There are fee levels for youth and adult categories. Membership forms may be obtained from the club.

The Committee of Wirral Fencing Club STRONGLY RECOMMEND membership as otherwise members are fencing without insurance, even if fencing only within our own club.
